Spinning Wheel!

spinning_wheelMeet my most recent random purchase!  To be honest, I’ve been keeping a lookout for a spinning wheel for well over a year, but as I’ve never used one, didn’t want to cough up too much money on a brand new one.

I got this spinning wheel from a local charity shop.  It needed a fair bit of repair and TLC, but it looked like it might work as a functioning piece (and if it didn’t, well, it would look pretty awesome!)

My grandad very kindly agreed to take up this rennovation project.  He is great at DIY and practically minded.  And finally, to buff it up to its full glory, my mum assisted (also DIY minded) to give a couple of coats of varnish.

Functionality wise, the proof will be in the spinning, but it looks like a wonderful ornamental piece even if it doesn’t work.  It looks like a custom built one.  However, I will be learning as much as I can in the next couple of months to see if I can work out how to use it.

As a thank you for his help, I made my grandad a spinning wheel themed card.

it looks great. i got my wheel 2nd hand for 20€ more than a year ago without knowing anything about spinning wheels. it was only a decorative spinning wheel and it took me fair amount of research and youtubing, to figure it out what to do to make it functional. Im still busy working on it, but i love tinkering on that old thing….
