For the last few weeks, I have been going to some dressmaking classes nearby.  I thought it might be useful for learning how to adjust and adapt patterns, as this is something I don’t do very much of.

Smokie, our temporary 'cat in residence' has gone Smokie, our temporary 'cat in residence' has gone to live with her new family! After watching @kitkatplayroom for the best part of a year, @dr_passmore got in contact with our local @catsprotectioncornwall to ask about cat fostering. We don't live somewhere we could have a cat permanently, but thought we might be able to support cats another way. Smokie was super shy when she arrived and spent two weeks living under the armchair, mainly coming out at night. Phill set up a camera to check she was okay during that time! She eventually came out and was a lovely lap cat! She's a senior cat but loves her toys, particularly 20 sided dice! I crocheted a mouse to take with her to her new home which you can watch her accidentally flip into her water bowl in the video 😆 she's going to love exploring her new home and the outdoors! If you want to find out more about cat fostering, it's worth getting in contact with your local branch and reading the useful information online. It's been a rewarding experience and hopefully we can support more cats soon! #caturday #cats #catfostering

My original plan was an Xmas themed top. However, my mood needs a boost, so the theme is being switched up! It's great that it's already cut out as I can just focus on the sewing part 🪡🧵 (I think I'll go with the silver thread at the front) #sewingtabitha #mindfulsewing

Last month I attended a free sewing workshop at Co Last month I attended a free sewing workshop at Cornwall College where I started making this picnic blanket. It is made from fabric I had already at home (and many remind me of other items I have made for myself and others) and even the wadding was in my stash! The backing and bias binding looks like it was old curtain fabric I picked up years ago as a remnant as it had a price written on the selvedge in red marker pen. The one day workshop was not long enough for me to finish the whole blanket, but I got a good amount completed and was able to finish it the following day at home. It took me another day to complete but that was mainly because I like hand sewing the bias binding. Also, scotchgard was used to give the fabric a bit of protection. So it looks like I'm still in #lastsewiststanding - though I think the majority of my makes since I joined have not been garments. It's not from lack of fabric I assure you though! It's more from chronic illness fatigue and having to pace my sewing for the time being... #sewing #picnicblanket #scotchgard #chronicillness #axialspondyloarthritis #axialspa #chronicallysewn
Huge congrats to my partner Phill for completing t Huge congrats to my partner Phill for completing the @londonmarathon last Sunday! Not only did he raise £446 for @nass_exercise he completed a mentally and physically demanding challenge!! Beyond sewing up a banner, I also did some sewing on his charity running vest. Unfortunately the charity did not have a top in his size so we cut up an old white activewear top (as I didn't have any similar fabric and didn't want to buy due to #lastsewiststanding) he no longer used and inserted white stripes on the sides then hemmed. Also, I appliquéd PIP on the front and back so people could cheer him on. I was worried the stitching might irritate him but it was okay! I would really recommend a banner if you ever spectate to support someone. It helps them spot you in the crowd! Also, we ended up adopting another Pip who we kept seeing a few minutes before our Pip 😂 the downside was I didn't manage to take any photos of him on route as I was always holding it 🤦‍♀️ #londonmarathon #running #sewing #applique #marathonmakes

I feel like I'm still in the running for #lastsewi I feel like I'm still in the running for #lastsewiststanding because I haven't made much since joining in! Here is a banner I've just finished though made completely from remnants at home in preparation for Phill taking part in the London Marathon. Phill has not done more than a 10k event before deciding to do the marathon to raise money for @nass_exercise - the only UK charity dedicated to the condition I have - axial spondyloarthritis. They are working to reduce the average time to diagnosis (currently 8.5 years) but I have found them invaluable for resources and information such as making decisions on treatment options. It's definitely a challenge for Phill but he has been working hard and hopefully he'll find this little banner gives a bit of a boost when he "hits the wall" on the day. If anyone would like to sponsor Phill, just let me know and I can share the justgiving link. #axialspondyloarthritis #tcslondonmarathon #tcslondonmarathon2023 #sewyourstash #nass #londonmarathon #axialspa #londonmarathon2023

First #makenine for this year completed is this kn First #makenine for this year completed is this knitted jumper for my dad. I started it about a year ago and have been knitting it on/off but was determined to get it done this year! It's the first jumper I've made for someone else, and the first jumper I've made in DK wool (only other jumper I made for myself in chunky). It was a gift request for a year ago at Christmas - requested a month before - but I'm a slow knitter and better late than never! Yarn is denim marl shade of hayfield bonus dk. Pattern was from women's weekly. There was a typo in the pattern at one point on one of the shaping sections but apart from that I really enjoyed the pattern and love the neck feature. I almost made really long sleeves due to not annotating my measurement notes correctly 😆 #knitting #xmasgift #womensweeklymag #knittedjumper #makenine2023 #handknit #memade #hayfieldbonusdk
My latest makes are all dishcloths! Most are made My latest makes are all dishcloths! Most are made from remnants of other makes. My mum came up with the idea of using scraps to make these a few months ago and I've recorded it as a blog and video. Using natural fibre materials mean you can recycle or compost them at the end of their lifespan. We've been using them at home for a couple of months now and they're a great replacement for synthetic sponges. #sustainable #sustainablesewing #sustainability #sewyourstash #fabricremnants #remnants #dishcloth #crafting #sewing #sewingforhome
Here is my #makenine for 2023: 1. Men's jumper fro Here is my #makenine for 2023:
1. Men's jumper from a Women's Weekly magazine (I began this in 2022 but I really want to finish it this year!!)
2. Knit and Crochet project bag from Stuart Hillard's Bags for Life book
3. Juno PJs from Tilly Walnes' Make it Simple book
4. A hot water bottle cover - most likely sewn/quilted as I have some wadding to use up, though I am tempted to knit one
5. McCall's 9172 dress with short sleeves and pockets variation - which I hope to then dye a mustard yellow.
6. Another Freya cowl neck dress like this owl version - just in a knit fabric covered in cats
7. Crocheted snowflakes: usually, I make them in December for the following year's cards, but I'm yet to do them for Dec 2023
8. Sew up all the squares I made for #the100dayproject in 2020 and make some sort of wall hanging
9. Make a light up Rudolf t-shirt for Christmas: I have the fabric, design, electronics bits and even dyed some fabric for the applique so I just need to go for this one! #makenine2023 #sewingfreya #sewingjuno #stuarthillardbagsforlife #sewing #crafting #craftingplans #mccalls9172 #makeitsimplebook

After owning this sewing machine for years, it's f After owning this sewing machine for years, it's finally got a cover/table protector! It's a budget machine, so doesn't come with a fancy cover, and it's been getting very dusty, particularly over the last couple of years when I've not sewn as much. My sister got me the #harrypotter themed fabric a while ago and this seemed like a great way to use it. I've got enough left to make a drawstring bag for the pedal at some point. I began making it at a free 1 day workshop at Cornwall College with Helen Clemo. It was a fun day and while I ran out of time to make it all in one day, it gave me the motivation to finish it off at home! #sewingmachinecover #sewing #sewingmachine
