I’ve scaled down my makes recently for an upcoming birthday.  Having found Kirsty Hartley’s second book (Wild Things To Make) in a local shop, I decided to begin with a simple A line girl’s dress to begin with.

@h_evernden and I did some watercolour at the @hap @h_evernden and I did some watercolour at the @happyplaceofficial festival last weekend! Watercolour is not an art or craft I have done for years, possibly since school. However, I appreciated how absorbing it was even in a 45-minute window! Holly at @wildandwave pitched the session at a fantastic pace and the @winsorandnewton floral pocket set means we can all carry on exploring the medium in our own time as well.
Did a test run of the backpack I made at Adult Edu Did a test run of the backpack I made at Adult Education Cornwall recently as part of the summer term textiles with @betsyowentextiles ! In class, we went through cyanotype and ice dyeing. My bag focused on cyanotype and used scraps of denim from old jeans, which were left over from when I turned them into a pinafore some years ago. Even had the strap webbing and zip lurking around! The pattern is the city backpack and appears to be from @simplysewingmag issue 43 - it's a great sized bag and the zipped pocket is handy. It has poppers/snap fasteners on either side, so the opening doesn't gape. There are a couple of issues with the pattern. There is an incorrect measure in step one for the front tab (says 1cm to press in but it's 0.5cm), and the measurements for the lining are not right. Fortunately, I left cutting out the lining until I'd made progress on the outside and realised this as it says to cut it a fair bit shorter than it should be! Overall, I'm really happy with it and hope to make a matching bottle holder for it soon when I get a chance 😊 #citybackpack #cornwallsews #cyanotype #cornishsummer #simplysewingmag #sewingbags
Rubee, our current cat in residence, has had two n Rubee, our current cat in residence, has had two nights cone free! Before this, she had built up to completely cone free during the day, gradually increasing the time out of the cone. So far, we can't see any wounds appearing, and she doesn't appear to be attacking her fur 🤞🤞 if she keeps this up, she'll be able to find her new forever home soon! Here's Rubee this morning with the goldfish toy I crocheted her recently (yes, it's got catnip in it!) #catfoster
Apparently, the official name for the beach towel Apparently, the official name for the beach towel poncho mum and I made 6 years ago is the coveroo 😂 We only made that one, but today I finally cut into some towels to make Phill and I one too! Sadly, mine won't get much use at the beach for swimming (I'm immunosuppressed and @southwestwater have a habit of dumping sewage into the beautiful coastline here) but we do go swimming a lot at a pool we walk to so in the summer we can use it for that! Fortunately, I have the pocket and hood pieces hanging around still plus the blog post/video to remind me how we did it 😆 #openwaterswimming #swimming #beachtowelponcho #beachcoverup #clobbercreations

Can't believe how long it's been since we went to Can't believe how long it's been since we went to Valencia! We had such a great time, even though we had to make it shorter than we originally planned, and we packed a decent amount in anyway. It's been such a busy six months that I've only got round to downloading the photos off the camera... Shout out to the grooviest tour guide @sazzito17 - will have to pop back and see you soon! #valencia

Smokie, our temporary 'cat in residence' has gone Smokie, our temporary 'cat in residence' has gone to live with her new family! After watching @kitkatplayroom for the best part of a year, @dr_passmore got in contact with our local @catsprotectioncornwall to ask about cat fostering. We don't live somewhere we could have a cat permanently, but thought we might be able to support cats another way. Smokie was super shy when she arrived and spent two weeks living under the armchair, mainly coming out at night. Phill set up a camera to check she was okay during that time! She eventually came out and was a lovely lap cat! She's a senior cat but loves her toys, particularly 20 sided dice! I crocheted a mouse to take with her to her new home which you can watch her accidentally flip into her water bowl in the video 😆 she's going to love exploring her new home and the outdoors! If you want to find out more about cat fostering, it's worth getting in contact with your local branch and reading the useful information online. It's been a rewarding experience and hopefully we can support more cats soon! #caturday #cats #catfostering

I've got an idea and if energy levels allow it, I' I've got an idea and if energy levels allow it, I'm going to crack on with it tomorrow! I cut out a blue tabitha t-shirt back in January I think. My original plan was an Xmas themed top. However, my mood needs a boost, so the theme is being switched up! It's great that it's already cut out as I can just focus on the sewing part 🪡🧵 (I think I'll go with the silver thread at the front) #sewingtabitha #mindfulsewing

Last month I attended a free sewing workshop at Co Last month I attended a free sewing workshop at Cornwall College where I started making this picnic blanket. It is made from fabric I had already at home (and many remind me of other items I have made for myself and others) and even the wadding was in my stash! The backing and bias binding looks like it was old curtain fabric I picked up years ago as a remnant as it had a price written on the selvedge in red marker pen. The one day workshop was not long enough for me to finish the whole blanket, but I got a good amount completed and was able to finish it the following day at home. It took me another day to complete but that was mainly because I like hand sewing the bias binding. Also, scotchgard was used to give the fabric a bit of protection. So it looks like I'm still in #lastsewiststanding - though I think the majority of my makes since I joined have not been garments. It's not from lack of fabric I assure you though! It's more from chronic illness fatigue and having to pace my sewing for the time being... #sewing #picnicblanket #scotchgard #chronicillness #axialspondyloarthritis #axialspa #chronicallysewn
Huge congrats to my partner Phill for completing t Huge congrats to my partner Phill for completing the @londonmarathon last Sunday! Not only did he raise £446 for @nass_exercise he completed a mentally and physically demanding challenge!! Beyond sewing up a banner, I also did some sewing on his charity running vest. Unfortunately the charity did not have a top in his size so we cut up an old white activewear top (as I didn't have any similar fabric and didn't want to buy due to #lastsewiststanding) he no longer used and inserted white stripes on the sides then hemmed. Also, I appliquéd PIP on the front and back so people could cheer him on. I was worried the stitching might irritate him but it was okay! I would really recommend a banner if you ever spectate to support someone. It helps them spot you in the crowd! Also, we ended up adopting another Pip who we kept seeing a few minutes before our Pip 😂 the downside was I didn't manage to take any photos of him on route as I was always holding it 🤦‍♀️ #londonmarathon #running #sewing #applique #marathonmakes
